Activities of Daily Living by Nancy Ludin, CEO of the Jewish Pavilion

The Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) include:

1. Getting out of bed- Transferring

2. Toileting - Safe restroom use and maintaining continence

3. Bathing and Grooming

4. Dressing and undressing

5. Meal Preparation and feeding

When a senior can no longer perform one of these tasks independently, help is needed. A home health agency may be contacted or the senior may want to consider Assisted Living. There are hundreds of companion care agencies in Central Florida. Most use a registry which means their CNA’s (certified nursing assistant) and HHA’s (home health aides) work for multiple companies. Other companion companies hire their own staff.

Some home health companies have skilled and unskilled heath care employees which mean they offer services such as nurses to help clean wounds, physical therapists and much more.

Selecting the right home care provider or assisted living community may be challenging. Feel Free to call the Orlando Senior Help Desk at the Jewish Pavilion when assistance is needed 407-678-9363.

While most seniors face major adjustments when transitioning to an elder-care community, Jewish seniors face additional challenges. Not only do they lose their homes, and many of their friends, but they also lose ties to their cultural heritage. This is where the Jewish Pavilion, a 501c3 non-profit, steps in. The Pavilion serves as a resource that provides room visits, festive holiday celebrations, and more to 450 Jewish residents in fifty facilities for seniors. The Jewish Pavilion promotes inclusion, and thousands of seniors of all faiths are welcomed into our programs. www.JewishPavilion.org
