The Sharing Center Recognized During 2020 National Philanthropy Day Celebration

LONGWOOD, FL, October 5, 2020 — The Sharing Center, a faith-based nonprofit organization in Longwood, Florida, is being recognized at this year’s virtual National Philanthropy Day in November for leading continued success and efforts throughout these unprecedented times of a pandemic. For almost 35 years, The Sharing Center has provided hope for the Seminole County community.

Through several partnerships and initiatives to raise critically needed funds, The Sharing Center hosted multiple free food distributions, serving nearly 1,000 families in need, providing them with many nutritious groceries as well as increased financial assistance to those on the brink of eviction and homelessness. As students began to transition back to school, 500 children received new book bags, $25 Shoe Carnival gift cards, and some received school supplies to help the family focus on their basic needs. The Sharing Center also hosted its first ever virtual event, Sweet Bites and Bikes virtual event, raising over $110,000. Funds from this event are directly impacting Seminole County families experiencing food insecurity and poverty.

On behalf of AFP Central Florida and the National Philanthropy Day committee, The Sharing Center is one of five Central Florida organizations featured throughout the week of November 8th. There will be a two-minute video released highlighting the work The Sharing Center is doing throughout the community and a virtual event for National Philanthropy Day on Thursday, November 12th

The Sharing Center received this recognition following months of adapting and planning how to best serve the Seminole County community living in poverty and homelessness.
