He went on to complete a residency in internal medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Lafayette\, where he served as Chief Resident. He also earned a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock\, achieving the rank of Chief Fellow.
