Disney Celebrates Arrival of TRON Lightcycle / Run with Orange County Public Schools

As many of you know, tomorrow marks the grand opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise at the Magic Kingdom, and we’re so excited for new “users” to experience this incredible new attraction. Before that though, we had the chance to celebrate this milestone with the Central Florida community last weekend while sharing some exciting news: Walt Disney World Resort is donating $100,000 to help enhance STEM education in Orange County Public Schools!

Empowering the next generation of diverse storytellers and innovators has always been important to us at Disney, and this latest donation builds on our long legacy of supporting local schools, students and teachers. I would not be who I am today without the amazing teachers in my life, which is another reason why I’m so proud to know this next step in giving back will help provide teachers with the resources they need to inspire young students to dream about their futures, build their talents and become who they imagine they can be.

This was the perfect way to close out the 50th Anniversary celebration! Over the past 18 months, we gave more than $6.5 million in grants to 60+ nonprofits, and Walt Disney World cast personally volunteered more than 233,000 hours at local organizations through our Disney VoluntEARS Program. You may have also seen the news we shared last week that Maestro Mickey Mouse himself visited Wekiva High School to donate new instruments and music for their orchestra, band and choral departments. You can read more about this donation in a great piece by the Orlando Sentinel on how Disney has powered Orlando’s growing arts scene.

I’m excited for all the community magic ahead as we continue to work together and support the people and places around us throughout the next 50 years and beyond.
