Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 20100 at 2:00 p.m. Join Moore Dance Project in celebrating Black History Month with Sacred Slave Stories, a contemporary ballet inspired by some of the most compelling interviews with more than 2,000 formerly enslaved African-Americans, as documented by the Federal Writers' Project (1936-1938). Featuring narrated excerpts from 25 of these historic interviews, Sacred Slave Stories moves between sorrow and joy, unfolding as a series of living memories that reveal deeply personal accounts of a people's collective courage, sacrifice and refusal to be diminished by an unjust world.
