THE PHILANTHROPIC TAPESTRY
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 550 feeding partners across Central Florida. In addition to helping feed our neighbors in need, the organization also provides culinary training to economically-challenged adults.
Second Harvest launched a signature product line A Spoon Full of Hope. Their products include Honey for Good, Soup for Good, Cookies for Good, among others that contribute to local economic growth. 100% of the proceeds directly support Second Harvest's no cost 16-week Culinary Training program, Catering for Good, a program that provides qualified, economically challenged adults with the culinary and life skills training to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry.
This network of growth woven together by Second Harvest, is a real world example of the proverb, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for his lifetime."
That said, let's get to the tasty part.
FIRST COURSE
Stone Eyed & Watermelon Tile Salad
- Watermelon Tile Salad: This refreshing salad has cubes of fresh watermelon, feta cheese, jicama, pickled red onion and watermelon rind.
- Stone Eyed: The selected accompaniment is a steinbier that infuses a uniquely dusky character of smoldering malts, followed by notes of freshly baked bread and floral honey.
- The Pairing: Stone Eyed's light salinity and smoke compliments the sweet acidity of the pickled watermelon rind, and plays against feta's trademark desiccating bite, while still being an overall cleansing experience.
SECOND COURSE
My Neck, Maibock & Low Country Boil
- Low Country Boil: A classic seafood boil of fresh crab, crawfish, shrimp, mussels, andouille sausage, sweet corn on the cob, and baby tri-color potatoes, combine to create a colorful dish that's bursting with flavor.
- My Neck, Maibock: The selected pairing is a crisp maibock that infuses notes of spice, pepper, and a bite of hops that balance with a caramelized malt backbone and soft bready character.
- The Pairing: Big, bold flavors deserve a big, bold beer to go along with it. Maibock's malty sweetness gives it heft against a dish with this much savor, while still maintaining its quenching, cleansing quality.
THIRD COURSE
The World Is Your Playhouse & Peach Cobbler Ice Cream Sandwich
- Peach Cobbler Ice Cream Sandwich: Sweet, warm peaches balance with smooth vanilla bean ice cream. Crunchy, caramelized sugars form a sparkling sheen over the flaky golden crust of the "Classic Shortbread Cookie for Good," a product fresh out of the Spoonful of Hope oven.
- The World Is Your Playhouse: The selected accompaniment is a dessert cobbler sour that's balanced with a blend of scratch kitchen spices and bready malts. Prepare for a sweet bite followed by a golden biscuit finish.
- The Pairing: The complementary flavors in both the peach cobbler dessert sour and the ice cream sandwich, brings the pairing to an end with a comfortably harmonized finish.
