Angel Nater Honored as Florida’s EMS Educator of the Year 2024

Seminole State College's Program Manager and Professor of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Angel Nater, has been honored with the 2024 EMS Educator of the Year award. The award was presented at the Florida Department of Health's annual Excellence in Emergency Medical Services ceremony, recognizing outstanding EMS professionals who critically safeguard public health.
Professor Nater has significantly influenced EMS education with over 16 years of dedicated service at Seminole State. He is celebrated for developing the College's advanced simulation program, which equips students with practical, hands-on experience vital for real-world emergency scenarios. Under his leadership, Seminole State's EMS programs have become some of the most progressive in Florida, offering both theoretical knowledge and immersive field internships.
Professor Nater's innovative approach to EMS education is forward-thinking and integrated. He leads interdisciplinary mass crisis simulations, where EMS students collaborate with nursing, respiratory care, and pharmacy technology students to address complex patient care scenarios. This distinctive training method fosters essential skills like leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking, preparing students for the dynamic demands of EMS work.
Beyond his teaching achievements, Professor Nater pioneered the Community Paramedic curriculum at Seminole State, a program in partnership with the Florida Department of Health. Offered entirely online, this program can be completed in as little as eight months for paramedics with a Florida certification. Those who complete the program and pass the certification exam can earn credits toward continuing their education in the College’s Bachelor of Science degrees in Health Sciences or Public Safety Administration.
"As I celebrate 42 years in EMS and reflect on all the various positions and organizations where I have worked, I can honestly say that the last 16 years at Seminole State College have allowed me to give back to this profession in ways I never imagined. I am grateful for the opportunity to support future EMS professionals in their development as they prepare to serve our communities in critical moments," said Nater.
