Florida Hometown Heroes Program Has $20 Million Remaining to Help Eligible Homebuyers

Seminole County Residents Encouraged to Explore Down Payment and Closing Cost Assistance While Funding Is Available
SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL — The Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program continues to offer an opportunity for eligible first-time homebuyers to achieve the dream of homeownership, with $20 million remaining from the original $50 million funding allocation.
The program provides eligible homebuyers with up to $35,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance, helping reduce one of the biggest barriers to purchasing a home. With funding available on a first-come, first-served basis, prospective buyers are encouraged to explore their eligibility and begin the process as soon as possible.
The Hometown Heroes Program is designed to support the individuals who serve Florida's communities, including:

  • Healthcare workers
  • K-12 school employees
  • Law enforcement officers
  • Firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) professionals
  • Court employees
  • Child care workers
  • Active-duty service members and eligible veterans
For many hardworking individuals and families, saving enough money for a down payment and closing costs can make homeownership feel out of reach. This program may help qualified buyers take that important next step toward owning a home in the communities they serve.
“I'm passionate about helping our local heroes achieve the dream of homeownership,” said Laura Meyers, Certified Mortgage Advisor with The Mortgage Firm – Team Meyers and a member of the Seminole County Chamber. “Whether you're just beginning to explore your options or you're ready to buy, I can help you understand the program, review your financing options, and navigate the process from start to finish.”
Eligible borrowers may receive assistance of up to 5% of the total first mortgage loan amount, subject to program requirements, with a maximum of $35,000 and a minimum of $10,000. Assistance is provided through a low-interest, deferred second mortgage. Eligibility, qualifying occupations, and available funding are subject to applicable program guidelines.
With $20 million remaining from the original allocation, eligible homebuyers are encouraged to act promptly. Funding availability can change, and assistance is not guaranteed until eligibility and program requirements are confirmed.
