Hispanic Entrepreneurs Reach Economic Prosperity With Support From FAIRWINDS Foundation

In 2016, Milna Maldonado left corporate America to launch her own business. She saw an opportunity in Central Florida to offer a higher level of personalized service in the commercial cleaning and janitorial supplies industry.

“Like many people who become entrepreneurs, we started the business (Prime Services LLC) with a little bit of faith and the courage to jump in,” Maldonado said. “I had knowledge from the corporate world and I have an MBA, but I knew I probably didn’t have everything I needed to boost the odds of success in those early days.”

Help to start, sustain and grow Hispanic-owned businesses

The president of Prime Services LLC reached out to the Hispanic Chamber of Metro Orlando for guidance and was referred to Prospera. The economic development organization helps start, sustain and grow Hispanic-owned businesses to achieve community prosperity. This includes providing guidance, “handholding” and addressing financial literacy through training and coaching underserved Hispanics so they can become prosperous business owners.

These services are possible through the support of partnerships like the one Prospera has with Orlando-based FAIRWINDS Credit Union and its FAIRWINDS Foundation.

Prospera gave Maldonado access to an attorney and set the business up with QuickBooks. They helped with Prime Services’ business plan, which they continue to use today. Just as important for Maldonado was Prospera’s role as a hand holder and cheerleader for the business, which gave her confidence to pursue her dream.

A 300% revenue surge

Maldonado has successfully grown her business with help from her husband and son. Since its founding, Prime Services has grown from two employees to more than 35, and revenue has surged by more than 300% to reach $1 million-plus.
