Seminole County, FL – March 18, 2026 – There’s something Integrative Health Coach Vicky Countess sees that a lot of women believe once they decide they’re finally ready to do something about their low bone density or osteoporosis.
“They think the first step is to start taking a bunch of supplements… calcium, vitamin D, and whatever else they’ve heard might help,” Vicky says. “But the truth is, bone health is much more than just adding a few supplements.”
She goes on to say: “What really makes a difference is understanding the bigger picture — what your body actually needs and which habits truly support stronger bones. Once you start focusing on the right priorities, things become much clearer.”
Here are three things Vicky encourages women to focus on when they want to improve their bone health:
First… supplements aren’t the whole answer. Yes, calcium and vitamin D are important for bone health. But they’re only one piece of the puzzle. Once you start understanding why you developed osteoporosis, you can begin changing some habits that might be working against you. Taking handfuls of supplements usually isn’t the answer. Whenever possible, it’s better to get your nutrients from food. Our bodies absorb nutrients much better when they come in the context of whole foods rather than isolated supplement forms.
Second… not all exercise builds bone. Exercise is so very important, but some types simply don’t stimulate new bone growth. Swimming, cycling, and walking are great activities for overall health — but they don’t actually build new bone. Your bones need the right kind of stress in the right places. That’s why bone-building exercises should be the priority first. Then you can layer in the other activities you enjoy.
Third… balance and mobility matter more than you think. When you have osteoporosis, your number one goal is simple: Avoid falls and prevent fractures. Improving balance and mobility can dramatically reduce your risk of falling in the first place, which makes these two things incredibly important. They may not always feel as exciting as other types of exercise, but they play a huge role in keeping you safe and confident in your daily life.
Vicky will be teaching a workshop – “What Your Doctor Didn’t Explain About Building Bone — With or Without Medication” on Thursday, April 16th at 11:00 a.m EDT. Register to attend by going to http://bit.ly/building-bone
“Your insights matter,” Vicky said. “And your next step does too.”
