The Longwood Police Department is proud to introduce Scout, the department's newest K-9, who has been assigned to work alongside the department's School Resource Officer (SRO) at Lyman High School as part of the City's ongoing commitment to school safety.
Scout is a specially trained weapon detection K-9 that will assist the Longwood Police Department in supporting a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Working alongside the department's SRO, Scout will serve as an additional proactive resource to help enhance campus safety while strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Longwood Police Department and Seminole County Public Schools.
“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” said Police Chief David Dowda. “The addition of Scout to our School Resource Officer program demonstrates our continued commitment to proactive school safety and our strong partnership with Seminole County Public Schools. We are excited to welcome Scout to the Longwood Police Department family and know he will be a valuable asset to our community.”
Beyond supporting daily school safety efforts, Scout will also provide opportunities for positive interactions between students and law enforcement. K-9s often help build relationships by serving as a friendly and approachable presence on campus while supporting the important work of the School Resource Officer.
The Longwood Police Department and Seminole County Public Schools have a longstanding partnership focused on providing a safe and supportive educational environment. The addition of Scout further strengthens that collaboration and reflects a shared commitment to the well-being of every student, teacher, staff member, and visitor at Lyman High School.
The Longwood Police Department is proud to welcome Scout and looks forward to the positive impact he will have both as a working K-9 and as a member of the school community.
