Since 2022, Seminole County Public Schools’ (SCPS) ePathways program— in partnership with the Seminole County Fire Department, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. military branches—has hosted Informed About the Uniform, a hands-on career education initiative at every Seminole County public high school.
Recently, the program partners presented Emelda Lovett, Lead Counselor at Seminole High School, with the 2025 Champion of Career Opportunities Award for her leadership and dedication in helping launch Informed About the Uniform at her school. Thanks to her efforts, the program has since expanded to all high schools across the district.
Lovett was surprised with the award presentation and a $100 Walmart gift card, donated by Action Church. Earlier this year, Lovett’s home was struck by lightning and caught fire, and she is currently in temporary housing—making the recognition and community support especially meaningful.
Informed About the Uniform introduces students to careers in public safety and the armed forces, giving them an inside look at professions in law enforcement, firefighting, and the military. The events allow students to meet representatives, ask questions, and explore the many paths available in these essential fields.
“There is a strong need for future first responders and public safety professionals,” said Sean Kurth, ePathways College & Career Specialist. “By bringing together our public safety agencies and military branches, we can show students the wide range of opportunities available to them. This collaboration helps ensure our young people are informed, inspired, and ready to take the next step toward meaningful careers.”
The ePathways initiative was created by Seminole County Public Schools to ensure every graduate leaves with a meaningful diploma and a clear plan for their future. Through programs like Informed About the Uniform, SCPS equips students with real-world exposure to high-demand, high-wage career opportunities that align with their interests and strengths.
