SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector Moves Forward with New Partnership

The SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector will move into design later this year, thanks to a new partnership with Seminole County that provides the funding needed to advance the project.

In February, the CFX Governing Board approved an interlocal agreement between Seminole County and CFX that clears the way to begin the design phase for the project.

For drivers, this project is about saving time and reducing congestion on local roads. It will create an alternative route to heavily traveled Lake Mary Boulevard and Red Cleveland Boulevard for drivers traveling from northbound SR 417, helping relieve congestion.

The connector is planned as an approximately two-mile expressway that links SR 417 and the Sanford International Airport area with a more direct connection through a local interchange at Lake Mary Boulevard/Red Cleveland Boulevard.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2031.
