City of Longwood Drinking Water Shows No Detection of 1,4-dioxane

LONGWOOD, FL August 16th, 2023 - Longwood’s Drinking Water is Safe

Recently the Orlando Sentinel published a series of articles relating to 1,4-dioxane contamination in drinking water in other areas. Because of this, the city received several inquiries from residents confirming the water in the City of Longwood was safe.

In 2013, the City of Longwood tested for the 1,4-dioxane chemical within our wells, and it was determined to be nearly untraceable at <0.07 parts per billion. The City of Longwood routinely tests its source water for contaminants as required by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency, along with additional testing when necessary

On July 24th, 2023, the City of Longwood sent water system samples to an independent laboratory for analysis. Today, August 16th, 2023, the city received the lab results, which determined  1,4-dioxane was non-detectable (ND).  We are pleased to confirm that the City of Longwood’s drinking water continues to be safe for our residents and water customers.

Here at the City of Longwood, we strive to exceed the requirements for water quality set by the Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Protection Agency.

More information on private well testing can be found on the Florida Department of Health website.
