Embrace Families gives local foster children a strong start to the school year

Hundreds of local children experiencing foster care are ready to start the new school year thanks to the generosity of their Central Florida neighbors who donated to Embrace Families’ back-to-school drive.

In July, Embrace Families, the lead nonprofit agency overseeing child welfare in Central Florida, asked the community to help provide backpacks, water bottles and lunchboxes to support foster and family caregivers as they prepare the children in their homes to return to the classroom. Thousands of items were collected, and during the week of July 24, families were invited to one of four distribution events to select what they needed. Bikes, school supplies and an assortment of personal care items were also available.

In total, 500 children served by Embrace Families now have the essential tools needed to confidently start the new school year.
