Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Office of Broadband Virtual Workshops July 14, 24 and 26

SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL (July 11, 2023)- The State of Florida was recently allocated over $1.1 billion to expand broadband infrastructure and connectivity. The funding, made available by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), and through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s (IIJA) Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, will provide federal resources for broadband planning, deployment, mapping, equity, and adoption activities.

As part of the process, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Office of Broadband will host a series of public workshops and webinars to garner feedback from residents about issues related to accessibility of adequate Internet service. The focus of conversation will ensure all communities can easily access the web, online devices and digital skills training. The sessions will include presentations on Florida’s BEAD Five-Year Action Plan, along with the Digital Adoption and Use Plan.

Seminole County residents are encouraged to participate in one of three virtual workshops to ensure their voice is heard. A 2022 Broadband Study in Seminole County indicated just under 1,000 households countywide are underserved for Internet connectivity, while survey responses showed that over half of respondents experience slowdowns and outages several times per month.

Residents interested in participating in the virtual workshop that do not have sufficient online capabilities should email broadband@seminolecountyfl.gov or call 407-665-7414 for assistance.
