Public Allies from Central Florida Meet with Policymakers in Washington, D.C.

A group of diverse young professionals from Central Florida recently took the trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C., to witness policymaking at the highest level.

Public Allies Central Florida – a program of Embrace Families – is a social justice organization that partners with other nonprofits to provide hands-on training to tomorrow’s leaders.

During the four-day trip at the end of June, the allies spent an hour discussing Central Florida’s affordable housing crisis with Adrianne Todman, Deputy Secretary of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. They also had the opportunity to meet with Reps. Maxwell Frost (FL-10) and Darren Soto (FL-09) and staff from Rep. Jared Moskowitz’s (FL-23) office.

Embrace Families’ chief legal officer, Gerry Glynn, also testified during a Congressional briefing on the Foster Youth and Driving Act, which is modeled after the Keys to Independence program, developed here in Central Florida to make it easier for teens in foster care to obtain a driver's license.
