Rotary Club Of Seminole County South Meets Critical Back-To-School Needs For Local Foster Families

ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2023) – The Rotary Club of Seminole County South recently made back-to-school a little easier for children in foster care by providing a grant to Embrace Familiesthe lead nonprofit agency overseeing foster care in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.

Although Embrace Families’ back-to-school campaign benefited more than 600 local children and teens and their foster caregivers, the $1,000 grant from the Rotary Club provided critical additional support to a dozen caregiver families who needed it the most.

The nonprofit’s EmbraceCommunity initiative is designed to address immediate and often overlooked needs of Central Florida children and families, specifically items not covered by other funding sources. Examples of recent EmbraceCommunity campaigns include:

  1. Back-to-school staples for children and teens experiencing foster care, such as backpacks, water bottles, lunchboxes and clothing.
  2. Kitchen pantry necessities to assist local families struggling with homelessness, such as shelf-stable dry goods and baby formula.
  3. Hair care products for young people of all cultures, such as specialized conditioners, anti-frizz and curling gels, mousse and sprays.

“Children come into care any time of the year, and it’s important to limit the impact this disruption can have in their everyday life,” said Mike Bryant, interim president and CEO at Embrace Families. “Normalcy can look as simple as a new backpack, water bottle, lunchbox, or even a new uniform or pair of shoes. Thanks to the South Seminole Rotarians, we were able to meet a critical need for grandparents and other relative caregivers who are on a fixed income and have found themselves unexpectedly caring for a loved one amid a family crisis.”

It's the third year in a row that the Rotary Club of Seminole County South has contributed to Embrace Families’ annual back-to-school initiative.
