Second Harvest Honors Volunteers With Annual Awards Presentation

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 28, 2023) – Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently recognized several volunteers for their contributions to the organization and its mission to fight hunger.

Between July 2022 and June 2023, 39,138 volunteers provided 119,765 hours of service to feed hope across Central Florida. Every year, Second Harvest hosts a lunch for volunteers and presents three distinct awards to individuals who have gone above and beyond to further the nonprofit’s critical work. The 2023 Volunteer Award recipients are:

  • Cassie and Sabrina Glow of Orlando, also known as The Glow Girls, were honored with the Youth Against Hunger Award. The sisters have rallied support for Second Harvest through their business, Glow Girls Kid Voiceover since 2020. In addition to volunteering their time and talents, they also host virtual food drives, raising enough funds to provide 40,000 meals for their Central Florida neighbors.
  • Steve Noppinger of Oviedo received the Spirit of Volunteerism Award. A volunteer captain since 2021, he spends about 20 hours per week at the food bank and also encourages others to get involved.
  • Bert Kragick of Orlando was recognized with the Going the Extra Mile Award for consistently exceeding expectations. She has donated her time and other resources to Second Harvest Food Bank for 15 years.

"With our volunteers' ongoing support, we are able to continue fighting hunger and feeding hope in the Central Florida community," said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO at Second Harvest Food Bank. "The food bank's distribution levels have doubled since March 2020 and remain at that level, so we are extremely thankful for the support."

Steve Noppinger was also recognized – along with fellow volunteer captain Al Delio – for individually helping to provide over 100,000 meals in 2022. Barry Pritchard, Evie Storlazzi, Jan Van Pavelka, and Dona Powell joined The 50K Club, a small but mighty group of volunteers who provide more than 50,000 meals through their service each year.
