Second Harvest Receives “Brain Fuel” For Thousands of Central Florida Students from Wawa Volunteers

A team of Wawa volunteers recently built 35 mobile carts that will be distributed to 35 schools as part of its "Fly Beyond" initiative with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Once a month, the carts will be stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables and stationed at car lines and bus loops for students to grab on their way home to share with their families. One in five kids across Central Florida is at risk of going to bed hungry on any given night, making Second Harvest’s childhood hunger prevention programs critical for local students and families. At the start of summer break in May, Wawa awarded Second Harvest a $1 million grant to expand student access to fresh produce through the Summer Food Service and School Partnerships programs.  The Wawa “Fly Beyond” partnership with Second Harvest will reach more than 53,000 households over a 12-month period through the two programs.
