Seminole County Acquires Mobile Oxygen Generation Unit through National Grant: Only Second County in

The Seminole County Fire Department recently acquired a mobile oxygen generation unit through a $185K national grant through Seminole County’s Office  of Emergency Management (grant covers the machine, trailer and generator).  The mobile oxygen generation unit is a partnership acquisition of the Seminole County Fire Department, the Florida Department of Health and Seminole County’s Office of Emergency Management. It was purchased to be able to re-supply oxygen for the special needs shelters during a hurricane or other disaster.  In the future, the Seminole County Fire Department will also be able to replenish its own oxygen. Seminole County is only one of two counties in the state of Florida (the other Alachua) with a Oxygen Generation System (OGSI), which serves a s a resource for special needs shelters. The mobile unit can refill up to 80 to 100 oxygen tanks. In the past, Seminole County has had three special need shelters open during hurricane threats. In the past, the County has had to fill up to 20 oxygen tanks in order to replenish and had to go to an outside vendor.
