Shepherd’s Hope Ready To Help Patients Affected By Changes To Medicaid

(Augst 14, 2023) Now that the continuous Medicaid coverage is ending, Shepherd’s Hope is poised to assist the many Floridians affected by “Medicaid Unwinding.” More than 5 million Floridians will lose their Medicaid coverage between March 2023 and April 2024.

Some of those affected will be enrolled in other subsidized insurance coverage, but others will become uninsured because Florida is one of only 11 states that does not cover low income adults under Medicaid expansion. Additionally, more than 200,000 Black and Hispanic children would no longer be eligible for Medicaid.

“Shepherd’s Hope provides quality healthcare for the uninsured and is ready to assist those in need through our multiple locations in Orange and Seminole counties. Since 64% of the patients we serve are Black or Hispanic, we are greatly concerned that those affected by the Medicaid eligibility changes are aware of available services. Our Healthcare Navigators can  help by researching other opportunities for coverage and offering additional resources including no cost health visits,” Donna Walsh, President and CEO of Shepherd’s Hope.

Walsh continues, “Shepherd’s Hope knows that those losing Medicaid have a limited time to apply and enroll in a Marketplace health plan, and our Navigators can explore options in affordable healthcare for them and assist with the application and enrollment process.”
