What a Great Day at Rescue Outreach Mission

Last Friday, May 10, was a tremendous day at Rescue Outreach Mission's homeless shelter in Sanford as dozens of community leaders came out to show their support and to celebrate the culmination of months of work by Leadership Seminole Class 33.

This class selected Rescue Outreach Mission as the non-profit it would support during their cohort. Over the past few months, the group has contributed more than 800 hours of volunteer work and raised more than $33,000 to pay for supplies and to help support the shelter's operations.

"When my class first started discussing our legacy project, we all knew that we wanted to make a big impact on not only our community but some of our residents who are most in need," said Bill Johnson, human resources director, Seminole County Sheriff's Office, said at the ribbon cutting event. "Rescue Outreach Mission does so much for our homeless population,
and we were incredibly proud to choose them for this."

The project started more than seven months ago and included several community events to raise money, but also multiple improvement projects at the shelter. This included painting the exterior of both buildings and renovating the bathrooms at the shelter.

In addition to the class members, the following companies donated their services and materials to help facilitate the projects:

  • Architectural Building Specialties
  • Leo’s Concrete Services
  • Sherwin-Williams Company
  • S.I. Goldman Company, Inc.
  • Tharp Plumbing Systems, Inc.
  • Tribe Enterprises Inc.
"What Leadership Seminole has done for our shelter is incredible and our entire team could not be more grateful," says Chris Ham, executive director, Leadeship Seminole. "We depend on the generosity of others and this is a perfect example of how our community can step up and help our neighbors."

About Rescue Outreach Mission:  In 1986, Mother Blanche Bell Weaver, Pastor of the Rescue Church of God, saw desperate people in her community living without basic essentials. With the support of her church and members, she was determined to help those in need. She founded the Rescue Outreach Mission to provide safety, support and a healing environment for her community.

Located across from the Rescue Church of God in Sanford, Rescue Outreach Mission remains true to her mission by serving disadvantaged people throughout Central Florida by providing resources that help prevent homelessness and assisting those who are homeless to become self-sufficient.
