The Speaker Series at Seminole State College of Florida is back for the 2024-25 academic year with a focus on alumni who started at Seminole State and have gone on to build successful careers in their chosen fields. The theme highlights the College’s new strategy, “Seminole State is your Learning Partner for Career Success.”
The 2024-25 Speaker Series kicks off Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus with a Fireside Chat with Seminole State Alumna Isa Adney, now an award-winning writer and documentary producer. Adney has conducted over 200 interviews and written profiles for Oscar and Emmy winners who worked on projects such as Stranger Things, Frozen, Chef’s Table and Hamilton.
While Adney has built an impressive resume with numerous career accolades, she will share how her time at Seminole State provided the foundation for her success. "I never would have expected or planned everything that I’ve achieved, but I can name the people at Seminole State who had a hand in my success," Adney shared in a 2012 interview with the College.
Adney was a star student at Seminole State as part of the Grindle Honors Institute and one of only 22 honors students at the College to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Adney continued her education, earning a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Writing from The Vermont College of Fine Arts.
With a clear passion for writing, Adney is now the author of four books. Her fourth book, The Little Book of Big Dreams, is available now and will be given away to the first 30 students who attend her Speaker Series presentation. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase from the Seminole State Bookstore.
Speaker Series events are free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. To request accessibility accommodations, please email Disability Support Services.
