Build Skills, Confidence & Team Spirit: Developmental Swim Team Makes a Splash at the YMCA

The J. Douglas Williams YMCA is excited to offer its Developmental Swim Team, the perfect next step for young swimmers ready to grow beyond swim lessons in a structured, supportive environment. Designed for ages 6–17, this program focuses on building technique, endurance, confidence, and friendships—without the pressure of competitive swimming.

Led by experienced coaches, swimmers participate in engaging, coach-led practices that emphasize skill development and teamwork. Athletes will strengthen their ability in freestyle and backstroke, and gain a foundational understanding of breaststroke and butterfly, all while having fun and building confidence in the water.

Practice Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday | 5:00–6:00 PM

Registration Dues:
• Plus & Max Members: $90/month
• Base & Non-Members: $200/month

Swim Assessment Required:
All swimmers complete a brief in-water assessment to ensure safety and proper placement. Participants should be able to swim one length of the pool freestyle with side breathing, one length of the pool backstroke with proper body position, and have a basic understanding of breaststroke and butterfly.

Family-Focused Environment:

Parents or guardians are required to remain on YMCA property during practice to help maintain a safe and supportive atmosphere for all participants.

Monthly Swim Meets & Events:
Swimmers have the opportunity to participate in monthly developmental swim meets with local YMCAs, along with quarterly family engagement events that celebrate progress and community.

Registration Process:

  1. Schedule a Swim Assessment with Aquatics Supervisor Preslye Windisch (Pwindisch@cfymca.org)
  2. Try a practice
  3. Register at the Front Desk

Help your child build skills, confidence, and lasting friendships in the YMCA Developmental Swim Team—where every swimmer has the opportunity to grow and succeed.
