City of Altamonte Springs - Hurricane Milton - Update 3

Thursday, October 10 – The City of Altamonte Springs continues to assess and respond to the effects of Hurricane Milton and has issued the following update.
City Openings
The City Library will reopen to provide access to charging facilities for electronics, computers and WiFi for individuals affected by power outages. Additionally, the library will offer a cool environment with air conditioning and continue regular library services.
 
The library will observe the following hours throughout the weekend:

  • Friday, October 11 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 12 | 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Extended Hours)
  • Sunday, October 13 | Closed
City offices will open for regular business on Monday, October 14. The City will provide additional updates regarding park openings once we have finished damage assessment of City facilities.
Restricted Speed Limits Due to Flooding Extended
Due to the severe flooding caused by Hurricane Milton, the City has imposed a speed limit of five mph on the following rights-of-way and streets, effective immediately by Emergency Executive Order No. 2024-04. Motorists are prohibited from driving at speeds that create a wake when passing through flooded roadways, as this can lead to further flooding and damage. Operating a motorized boat on roadways is also prohibited.
Additionally, several roads have been deemed impassable at this time. We urge all residents to exercise extreme caution when traveling within the City.

Debris Pickup & Refuse Collection
  • Regular household trash and recycling will resume its normal pickup schedule.
    • Friday, October 11 | Residences on the east side of I-4
    • Monday, October 14 | Residences on the west side of I-4
    • Note: City garbage trucks will ONLY collect regular household trash.
  • Household trash and storm debris must be separate per FEMA rules. Crews cannot pick up your household trash with your storm debris.
  • The City will also start bulk vegetative storm debris collection on Friday, October 11.
  • The City’s contracted private debris haulers will assess pickup items throughout the weekend and begin additional storm debris collection early next week.
  • There is no bag limit. All items must be placed at the curb on a public right-of-way (between the road and sidewalk) and not in the street or in your yard (private property) for collection.
  • Do not stack or lean debris on mailboxes, poles, fire hydrants or other structures. Also, do not place debris near or under trees.
 
Debris MUST be divided into separate piles:
  1. Yard Waste—large tree limbs and branches. No bundling is required.
  2. Bagged Yard Waste—smaller items such as leaves, plants, twigs, etc. Note: leaves must be bagged.
  3. Construction & Demolition—building debris such as fencing, roofing, lumber, drywall, carpeting, plastic, glass, furniture, appliances, etc.
