The City of Sanford is saddened by the passing of former Mayor Larry A. Dale, who served our community with dedication, honor and vision from 1997 through 2001 as Mayor and from 2001 to 2018 as President of the Orlando Sanford International Airport.
During his tenure, Mayor Dale played a pivotal role in advancing the growth and development of Sanford, including significant contributions to the Orlando Sanford International Airport, helping to position the city as a regional transportation hub. He was instrumental in arranging funding for the initial phase of the RiverWalk and for creating the partnership with Seminole County Public Schools to build a pool at Seminole High School. In recognition of his lasting impact, the City of Sanford Aquatic Center was renamed the Larry A. Dale Aquatic Center in 2001.
“Mayor Dale’s leadership and commitment to our community left a lasting mark on Sanford,” said Mayor Art Woodruff. “He had a huge impact on every organization he was involved in and truly cared about the people around him. He dedicated himself to improving the quality of life for residents and strengthening our city’s future. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his service.”
The city encourages residents to celebrate Mayor Dale’s life and legacy through their memories and contributions to the community he loved and served.
