Community Voices Will Inspire a Commemorative Quilt Honoring Goldsboro’s Original Incorporation

The City of Sanford invites residents, neighbors, and friends to take part in a meaningful celebration of history and community. As we prepare to honor Goldsboro’s original incorporation period (1891–1911), your stories matter — and they can help shape a lasting piece of art.

Join the Westside Quilters and the City of Sanford’s Race, Equality, Equity and Inclusion, REEI, Committee for a special storytelling gathering:

Date: Saturday, July 26
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Location: Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center
919 S. Persimmon Avenue, Sanford

Attendees will have the opportunity to share personal or family stories connected to Historic Goldsboro. These memories and reflections will serve as inspiration for a commemorative quilt, which will be revealed during a future event celebrating Goldsboro’s legacy and cultural significance.

This gathering is part of an ongoing effort to honor and preserve the vibrant history of one of Florida’s oldest African American communities.

All are welcome. Come to listen, come to share, and be part of history in the making.
