Opera Orlando is excited to present additional events ahead of an all-new production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. and February 8 at 2 p.m. in Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
With music by Kevin Puts and a libretto by Mark Campbell, Silent Night premiered in 2011 to great critical acclaim, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2012 with an immediate PBS broadcast. Based on the award winning 2005 film Joyeux Noël, this powerful work underscores the yearning, despair, and hope of the soldiers living in the trenches while recounting a miraculous moment of peace during one of the bloodiest wars in human history.
Sung in various languages, this original production features a stellar cast led by tenor Brendan J. Boyle, international soprano and Orlando native Julia Radosz, and Grammy Award-winner and Opera Orlando general director Gabriel Preisser, who also originated the role of Lt. Gordon in the world premiere at Minnesota Opera. Meet these artists, connect with Opera Orlando staff and patrons, and learn more about the production and the music before seeing it on the MainStage through the Opera’s More of the MainStage series for Silent Night.
