The Greater Orlando Sports Commission (GO Sports) is proud to announce that the 7th Annual Celebrating Women in Sports luncheon presented by Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute will be hosted at Addition Financial Arena on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. In addition to Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute returning as the presenting sponsor, Florida Blue is returning as the sponsor of the fireside chat with featured speaker, Misty May-Treanor. Last year's luncheon sold out with more than 725 guests in attendance.
“We are thrilled to welcome Misty May-Treanor as this year’s keynote speaker, continuing our tradition of offering insight and inspiration from some of the most noted female athletes and businesswomen in U.S. sports history,” said Caesar Lopez, Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel for Orlando City SC & Orlando Pride, and Chairman of the GO Sports Board of Directors.
The luncheon will also recognize several female leaders in the local sports community with the Women in Sports Leadership Award, Rising Star Award, and WISE Greater Orlando Women of Inspiration Award. To view past winners, visit GreaterOrlandoSports.com/
“We’re excited to host this event every year and continue to shine a spotlight on the extraordinary women in our sports community,” said Jason Siegel, President & CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission. “Thank you to Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute for their ongoing support as our presenting sponsor and Florida Blue for returning as our featured speaker sponsor.”
With three Olympic Gold Medals (Athens, ’04, Beijing, ’08, and London, ’12) and 109 career tournament victories, Misty May-Treanor is widely considered the greatest beach volleyball player in the history of the sport.
Misty’s performance in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England captured the hearts of fans from all around the world. After many believed she couldn’t recover from a serious injury/surgery incurred from her appearance on TV’s Dancing With The Stars just three years prior, Misty showed her resolve, work ethic, and commitment in retaining her standing as the greatest athlete in her sport with her third consecutive Olympic Gold Medal in London.
Above and beyond Misty’s achievements in her sport, she takes great personal pride in being an outstanding role model and making an impact with each opportunity she can. Misty spreads goodwill through her newly formed May-Treanor Ohana Foundation, The Gary Sinise Foundation, Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and more. She also participates in fulfilling engagements such as hosting FOX-TV’s documentary, Boundless: The Betty Skelton Story, and serving as the voice of NBC for the 2024 Olympic Games/Beach Volleyball from Paris, France.
Misty has dominated every level of the sport of volleyball, both as an indoor volleyball Champion (two California State Championships at Newport Harbor High School, 1991-1995, and one NCAA Division I Championship at Long Beach State, 1998) in addition to securing her position as the most decorated athlete in beach volleyball history. Misty is happily married to former Major League Baseball catcher, Matt Treanor, and they are proud parents to three beautiful daughters, Malia, Mele and Mia.
Past featured speakers at Celebrating Women in Sports include Jessica Mendoza (2018), ESPN’s first female Major League Baseball analyst and two-time Olympian; Stephanie McMahon (2019), WWE Chief Brand Officer; Brandi Chastain (2021), two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, coach and broadcaster; Jennifer Rizzotti (2022), Hall of Fame basketball player and President of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun; Joan Benoit Samuelson (2023), legendary distance runner and winner of the first ever Women’s Olympic Marathon; and Doris Burke (2024), Hall of Fame sports broadcaster and lead NBA analyst on ESPN and ABC. Attendance has grown steadily each year, culminating in a record attendance of 725 for the 2024 luncheon.
