Hometown Heroes Down Payment Assistance Program Still Has $30 Million Available for Eligible Homebuyers

Local Essential Workers and Service Members Encouraged to Apply Before Remaining Funds Are Exhausted
The Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program continues to make homeownership more attainable for the state's workforce, and there is still $30 million remaining from the program's original $50 million funding allocation.
The program provides up to $35,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers who serve Florida's communities every day. With funding available on a first-come, first-served basis, eligible buyers are encouraged to begin the qualification process as soon as possible.
The program is available to many of Florida's essential workforce members, including:

  • Healthcare Workers
  • K-12 School Employees
  • Law Enforcement Officers
  • Firefighters and EMS Professionals
  • Court Employees
  • Child Care Workers
  • Active-Duty Service Members
  • Eligible Veterans
For many families, the greatest obstacle to purchasing a home is saving for a down payment. The Hometown Heroes Program helps remove that barrier, making homeownership more accessible for those who dedicate their careers to serving others.
"Florida's essential workers strengthen our communities every day," said Laura Meyers with The Mortgage Firm. "This program is an outstanding opportunity to help those who serve our communities achieve the dream of homeownership while funding remains available."
Prospective homebuyers who believe they may qualify should act promptly, as the remaining funds are expected to be distributed quickly.
For more information about eligibility requirements or to begin the application process, contact a participating mortgage lender or housing professional familiar with the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program.
