Hurricane Milton: Second Harvest Is Ready to Respond

I know this is a stressful time for many of us as we prepare for Hurricane Milton. Please know that Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is here with you, prepared and waiting to face this storm together.

We've weathered storms before and have solid plans to support our community once it is safe to resume operations. Our team is collaborating with the Feeding America and Feeding Florida networks, emergency operations managers, and our local feeding partner network to ensure we are fully prepared to assist our community.

As Central Florida's emergency food supply, Second Harvest is equipped to respond quickly with increased levels of food to the areas that need it most.

Here's what is happening today:

  • Volunteers are packing boxes with ready-to-eat meals and nonperishable items like canned soups, stews, peanut butter and jelly.
  • Mercy Kitchen is prepared to supply hot meals to local shelters.
  • Feeding partners are picking up food from the docks every hour.

Our main facilities in Orlando, Daytona Beach, Ocala and Melbourne will remain open, serving feeding partners for the rest of today. The Food Bank will be closed Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10 and re-assess weather conditions on Friday morning.

For the latest updates, check our disaster page, or follow us on Facebook.

Our commitment to you and our community remains strong in this challenging moment. Please stay safe and take care of yourselves as we weather this storm together.
