After one of the more interesting - and longest - Legislative Sessions, a state budget has been passed and 265 bills made it to Governor DeSantis' desk.
One of the biggest accomplishments of the session was the final elimination of the business rent tax.
Your chamber has called for its elimination in its annual legislative agenda. After years of small reductions, this tax will no longer be collected once the tax package is signed into law.
When the Seminole County Chamber first teamed with chambers across the state to address this tax, which is only collected in Florida, it raised more than $3 billion. This year, it collected $900 million.
Congratulations to all who have advocated for the elimination of the tax over the years. Advocacy by chambers works. Your voice is important.
The business rent tax is one subject we'll be discussing as the rescheduled Legislative Update, now being held on September 8 at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. We have confirmed that Senator Jason Brodeur, Representative Doug Bankson and Representative David Smith will be there and have invitations out to Representatives Rachel Plakon and Susan Placensia.
In addition to looking back, this new date also allows us to talk about the 2026 Legislative Session. Committee weeks start in just a few months!
All tickets from our previously scheduled event will be honored, but if you have not registered, click here!
