Orlando Health Behavioral Health Hospital today celebrated its official ribbon-cutting, marking the upcoming opening of the new state-of-the-art, 144-bed behavioral health hospital expanding access to high-quality, compassionate care in the Greater Orlando area and across Central Florida.
Located at 1452 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka, Florida, the hospital is a joint venture between Orlando Health and Acadia Healthcare that builds on a shared commitment to meeting the growing behavioral health needs of communities across the metro area and broader region.
Orlando Health Behavioral Health Hospital provides a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services for children, adolescents, adults and older adults, including acute inpatient care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs and electroconvulsive therapy. The hospital’s thoughtfully designed environment promotes dignity and well-being, while multidisciplinary care teams of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, social workers and other specialists work collaboratively to illuminate paths to healing and recovery for those experiencing acute mental health and substance abuse disorders.
“We are proud to expand both inpatient and intensive outpatient capacity for behavioral health care in Central Florida while broadening the range of programs available,” said Shawn Molsberger, senior vice president, Orlando Health North Florida Region. “Located for easy access, this hospital will deliver essential services and advance Orlando Health’s commitment to integrated, high-quality behavioral health care.”
The hospital anticipates opening this quarter following completion of final preparations. Once the new hospital is fully operational, Orlando Health will transfer all inpatient behavioral health services from its South Seminole Hospital Campus.
“Across Central Florida, individuals are facing a real and growing need for timely access to high-quality behavioral healthcare, and this facility stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when mission-driven partners unite to address this critical public health challenge,” said Debbie Osteen, CEO of Acadia Healthcare. “By building on Orlando Health’s trusted legacy of compassionate, patient-centered care and pairing it with Acadia’s national leadership and clinical expertise in behavioral health, we are expanding access to evidence-based treatment that inspires hope, improves lives and elevates communities.”
Orlando Health Behavioral Health Hospital will serve as a teaching and training site for future behavioral health professionals, including physicians, nurses, therapists and related disciplines, strengthening the regional workforce.
Edward Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Orlando Health Behavioral Health Hospital, added, “We invite the community to experience the healing environment we’ve created for those facing acute mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post‑traumatic stress disorder and co‑occurring substance use disorders, with care grounded in dignity and respect.”
