The Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute and Orlando Health Women’s Institute Center for Urogynecology is now open in one clinic on the campus of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.
Both specialties focus on conditions involving the pelvic floor — the complex network of muscles, nerves, and connective tissue that supports the bladder, uterus, vagina and rectum. This integrated clinic supports multidisciplinary pelvic health care and is the first of its kind within the Orlando Health system.
"Having a clinic in the community makes it easier for patients to come in early with colon or rectal symptoms, ask questions and get evaluated," said Antonio Caycedo, MD, chief of colorectal surgery and medical director at Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute. "For a patient who lives nearby, this enables timely screenings, faster answers and continuity of care without the stress of traveling far."
One in four women over the age of 20 has at least one pelvic floor disorder, which can be caused by a range of factors, including pregnancy, constipation, heavy lifting or aging.
“Bringing comprehensive urogynecology services into the community means women can seek compassionate care close to home for pelvic floor disorders," said Anjali Vyas, MD, president of Orlando Health Women's Institute. "We’re able to offer a full range of effective treatments, so care is truly tailored to each woman’s needs and goals."
The clinic is located at 7350 Sand Lake Commons Boulevard, Suite 2225 in Medplex B, Orlando, Florida 32819.
