Cost of Poverty Simulation Experience*
9:00 a.m. – noon @ Kia Center
The Think Tank Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is an interactive simulation that explores the lived experience of poverty firsthand through the eyes of real families. Through role-playing scenarios based on real-life stories, participants walk in the shoes of those navigating complex systems. The purpose is to help organizations and communities gain a deeper understanding of the human and systemic impacts of poverty to build empathy, driving more informed decisions and action to help improve local outcomes.
Magic Community Impact Forum
The Magic hosted a Community Impact Town Hall on June 2 based on the feedback from the 50 community leaders who attended the 2025 Community Impact Forum. The session provided an update on progress and revisited CO-LAB initiatives.
The CO-LAB was a collaborative effort between the Magic and West Lakes District providing a program to contribute to the growth and vitality of the small business ecosystem. The CO-LAB initiatives included the Entrepreneurship Leadership CO-LAB supporting small businesses in West Lakes and Parramore led by the West Lakes District Executive Director Jennifer Hilaire; the Power Up Youth Summit CO-LAB with LIFT Orlando; and the ERG Community Network CO-LAB led by Magic Inclusion Manager Michelle Hayes.
The Magic will continue to show solidarity within the local community supporting other activities taking place around Central Florida during the months of May/June. Activities include the Pride Cup – an annual LGBTQ+ multi-sport competition; Orange County Juneteenth with Magic sponsorship of Orange County Black History Committee’s Juneteenth Gala; and participation in the City of Orlando’s Juneteenth Celebration.
*media interested in covering the Cost of Poverty Simulation Experience must RSVP in advance to twingerson@orlandomagic.com. Event is not open to the public; participants have been pre-selected.
