Seminole County Announces 2026 Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

The Seminole County Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the induction class of 2026. These six individuals are recognized for their impact across the local sports world as an athlete or through coaching, sportscasting, or refereeing.

 

The inductees will be honored on Wednesday, May 13, at Lake Mary High School during the annual Seminole County High School Night of Champions ceremony. Members of the public are invited to attend and celebrate this year’s honorees.

Female Athlete: Jennifer Darty

Born and raised in Seminole County, Jennifer Darty is a graduate of Oviedo High School where she was a leader in girls’ volleyball. She played all four years on the varsity team and earned a varsity letter, an award that recognized her athletic excellence, school pride, and stellar academic standing, each year. Her Oviedo High School athletic career concluded with her as team captain and receiving the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

 

After graduating in 2006, Darty was a member of the Mercer University’s Women’s Varsity Volleyball team in Macon, Georgia. That year, she became a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, was named Freshman of the Year, and was a member of the All-Academic Team in both 2006 and 2007. She later took her talents to the College of Charleston where she was a member of the Southern Conference Championship team in 2008 and 2009. Her collegiate career continued to collect milestones with her being named the College of Charleston’s Coaches Award, her participation in an NCAA tournament, and her selection to the Southern Conference Academic All-Conference Team in 2009.

 

Darty’s impact can still be seen today with her involvement at Oviedo High School as the current Athletic Director and head coach of the girls’ volleyball team. Under her leadership, she has achieved a record of 296-131 and has won three State championships. During her tenure she has accumulated numerous coaching honors including Coach of the Year awarded by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA), State Coach of the Year awarded by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), Region Coach of the Year awarded by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and Coach of the Year awarded by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

 

Additionally, Darty currently serves as the Club Director of the Oviedo Volleyball Academy. Her leadership was also instrumental in the start of the sport of Beach Volleyball that was later sanctioned by the Florida High School Athletic Association.

 

Female Contributor: Gillian Spiller-Rhein

Gillian Spiller-Rhein is a former two-time State Champion and All-American swim athlete that represented the Lake Brantley High School Patriots. Spiller-Rhein began her swim career at eight years old with the Patriot Aquatics and later grew up to be a part of two state championship teams at Lake Brantley High School. She graduated from school in 1990 and continued her swimming career at Brevard Community College. Spiller-Rhein later returned to Patriot Aquatics as an age group coach where she served as a valuable staff member. She currently coaches three different groups at Patriot Aquatics as well as Masters swimming. Gillian has become known for her meticulous technical work ethic and high energy where she consistently creates excitement and brings spirit among the teams.

 

Male Athlete: Charles Riggins

Charles Riggins played football for Seminole High School before continuing his education and football career at Bethune-Cookman College where he played as a defensive lineman from 1977-1980. He was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference defensive player of the week two weeks in a row and was drafted in the ninth round of the 1982 National Football League (NFL) draft by the Green Bay Packers preseason practice squad. Riggins played three seasons in the NFL where he also played for the Washington Commanders practice squad and in three games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1987.

 

Inclusion Award: Callie Anderson

Callie Anderson has been a member of the Lake Mary High School girls’ golf team for the past four years, where she has competed in varsity matches as a golfer despite having Down syndrome. She has participated in state-level Special Olympics golf competitions, winning a regional tournament as well as an alternate state competition in 2019. She is currently training to compete in her first triathlon and was recently featured in a marketing campaign for an Adidas athletic shoe designed for adaptive populations, including individuals with Down syndrome.

 

Legacy Award: Carl Fabry

Carl Fabry was a basketball player at Oviedo High School where he earned varsity letters all four years and helped lead the team to the State Basketball Championships each year. During his junior year 1957, Fabry was voted “Most Valuable Player” and placed on both the All-Star and coaches all Florida state team. Standing at six feet and five inches, he was one of the region’s first players to average over 25 points per game and shoot over 80% from the free throw line. Fabry was also selected by the Central Florida Coaches Association to play in the 10th Annual North-South All Star Game Classic at the University of Florida. Following his high school athletic career, Fabry played on the United States Army basketball team in Europe. He later attended Orlando Junior College, where he led the team to its first winning seasons during his freshman and sophomore years. He averaged over 20 points per game and led in rebounds. Carl played competitive basketball until age 50 after being a key player for various Orlando city leagues and state AAU teams.

 

Male Contributor: Jay Getty

Jay Getty began his sports career at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where he was a cross-country runner. Following his time at UCF, Getty joined Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) in 1991 as an intern. In total, he coached track and field for 35 years, developed soccer teams for 16 years, and served as both an Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director for 29 years.

 

During his time at Oviedo High School (OHS), Getty coached both boys’ and girls’ cross country and track and field for 14 years. He led the cross country team to district and regional titles, as well as numerous top 10 finishes at the state level. He coached Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Simpson of Team USA’s track team to three state championships while she was a student at OHS. Getty also coached the girls’ soccer team for 12 years. Under his leadership, Oviedo High School won the Florida All Sports Title twice.

 

In 2005, Getty joined Hagerty High School during its opening and later became the Athletic Director in Fall 2013. He coached the boys’ and girls’ cross country and track and field team for 21 years, during which he earned several nominations as National Cross Country Coach of the Year.

 

Due to his extensive coaching career, Getty has been inducted into the Oviedo High School Hall of Fame, the Hagerty High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Florida Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame, and now the Seminole County Sports Hall of Fame.

 

Getty currently serves as President of the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA), and continued to work closely with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) throughout his career. He was integral to the advancement of policies, leadership development, and best practices in high school athletics. He was also the Chairman of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA).
