We continue to provide a voice for the community in issues that can greatly impact the economy and the businesses of Seminole County.
As we have shared, our chamber opposes Amendment 3 for a wide range of reasons, but primarily, this Amendment has the potential to significantly derail the success we have had in Seminole County.
People want to live here. People want to work here. People want to play and learn here. And we believe Amendment 3 could change all that.
This week, Seminole County Chamber President & CEO Rebekah Arthur was featured in the Orlando Sentinel as a guest commentator. Here's a bit of what she shared:
Seminole County has a reputation as one of Florida’s premier communities. For decades, people have chosen to live here because of our schools, parks, neighborhoods, economy and sense of safety.
Why would we do anything that could damage what makes Seminole County appealing?
The Seminole County Chamber has spent the past several months looking closely at Amendment 3 and what it could mean for the community we have built. Last week, our board of directors voted to oppose it because we believe it poses a significant threat to our member businesses and the community.
We understand why the amendment is appealing, and we firmly believe low taxes help economies thrive.
Housing costs are high, and lower property taxes would reduce monthly costs for many homeowners. In the short term, that could give the housing market a real boost.
We’re concerned about the long-term impact.
