Seminole County Launches Citizen's Academy

Join Seminole County in a series of department-specific open house events offering residents an inside look at essential County services.

 

Unlike traditional citizen’s academies that require a multi-week commitment, this flexible format allows residents the ability to choose the sessions that interest them the most. At each open house, residents will get a behind the scenes look at operations, and meet the experts who keep Seminole County running.

  • Seminole County Fire Department 
    Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. 
    Fire Station 11, 2721 S. Ronald Reagan Blvd., Altamonte Springs 
    Kids and families can view fire trucks and try on rescue equipment. Then, watch live demonstrations to see how firefighters and paramedics respond to emergencies in the community. 

  • Economic Development and Tourism 
    Thursday, April 17, 6–8 p.m. 
    Boombah Sports Complex, 3450 E. Lake Mary Blvd., Sanford  
    Discover how Seminole County supports local businesses, attracts new industries, and promotes tourism in the area to drive a thriving economy. 

  • Environmental Services and Utilities 
    Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. 
    Central Transfer Station, 1950 S.R. 419, Longwood 

    Ever wonder what happens to your trash and recyclables once they’re picked up at the curbside? Come check it out at the Central Transfer Station, then learn about the Seminole County teams restoring our lakes and rivers, managing our water and wastewater systems, and more. 

  • Public Works 
    Thursday, April 24, 6–8 p.m. 
    177 Bush Loop, Sanford 
    The Public Works team keeps Seminole County running smoothly. From maintaining roads and managing stormwater to keeping traffic flowing, you’ll get a firsthand look at the equipment, crews, and services that support your daily life. 

  • Emergency Management 
    Thursday, May 1, 6–8 p.m. 
    Seminole County Animal Services, 232 Eslinger Way, Sanford 
    Learn how the County helps keep residents and their pets safe during the Emergency Management open house at the animal shelter. Pet the adoptable dogs and cats from Animal Services then learn about 911 administration and emergency response coordination. 

  • Parks and Recreation 
    Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. 
    Greenwood Lakes Park, 660 Green Way Blvd., Lake Mary 
    Meet the teams that make Seminole County a great place to live and play! Learn more about our parks, trails, natural lands, libraries, museum, and Extension Services. Kids can view live animals from the Nature Center and take home activities from the Library.
