Seminole State College named a “2026 Great College to Work For”

SANFORD, Fla. (Sept. 18, 2026) - Seminole State College of Florida is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program, one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country.

 
The results, released today in The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 171 colleges and universities. Only 76 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with Seminole State included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students. 
Seminole State won honors in two categories this year: 
  • Shared Governance (only faculty and adjunct faculty considered): recognizes collaborative governance processes and decision-making, which are among the most widely valued and deeply respected traditions within higher education
     
  • Inclusion, Belonging & Community: recognizes a collegewide commitment to building a sense of community, as reported through the experiences of faculty and staff
“This distinction is a wonderful affirmation of the culture we are building together at Seminole State,” said college President Dr. Georgia Lorenz. “More than the recognition, it reflects our commitment through our strategic plan, Impact 2030, to cultivate a collaborative and innovative environment where employees are a priority.”
 
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
