The City of Sanford’s Race, Equality, Equity and Inclusion (REEI) Advisory Committee Invites You to Sanford Speaks

The City of Sanford is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all residents, because the true strength of our community lies in its diversity. In collaboration with the Peace and Justice Institute, the City of Sanford’s Race, Equality, Equity, and Inclusion (REEI) Advisory Committee, and the City of Sanford Mayor’s Youth Council, are proud to host a series of community conversations to engage our youth and work collectively toward a more equitable and inclusive future for everyone.
What is Sanford Speaks?
Sanford Speaks is a series of interactive community events designed to give voice to the community, especially our youth, and to better understand the local perspectives on diversity, equity, and inclusion. These events create a space for open and honest dialogue, where residents can share their personal experiences and ideas for shaping a more inclusive Sanford. By listening to all voices, Sanford Speaks aims to build stronger relationships and promote positive change in the community.
Building on Last Year’s Success
Following the success of last year’s Sanford Speaks event, which filled the Sanford Civic Center, we are excited to continue these vital conversations. One participant shared, “I was nervous about the discussions, but it was truly inspiring to hear people open up to strangers. It encouraged me to share authentically as well.” We were honored that WESH 2 News covered the event, helping amplify these important discussions. You can watch the story here.

The REEI Advisory Committee: Leading the Way
The REEI Committee is a dedicated group of 16 local leaders and volunteers, all appointed by Sanford’s City Commission, working to elevate diverse voices within Sanford. The primary goals of the Sanford Speaks events are:

• To gain insight into how young people perceive diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to understand the messages they wish adults to hear.
• To create a safe, open space for dialogue where community members feel comfortable sharing their stories and experiences.
• To strengthen connections between different community groups, fostering trust and collaboration.
