Habitat homeowner Doris Mullins Kipp will embrace a big milestone this month. She will make the final payment on her mortgage, paying it off in full and burning a copy of her mortgage statement in celebration. Doris set a goal to get her mortgage paid off early and despite ongoing challenges, was able to do so in less than 10 years. Using a budget learned at financial workshops, she refrained from splurging on unnecessary items, shopped for furniture at Habitat's ReStore and worked extra jobs; putting all of the extra money toward her mortgage principle. An accomplishment most of us only dream of, Doris is a wonderful example of the success of the Habitat program. First we celebrated at the dedication of her new home.
