Learning Specialist (Orton Gillingham trained)

As an Engage the Brain Learning Specialist, you will provide personalized academic intervention so that learners, with all types of learning abilities can think, learn, and grow.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
  • Florida State Certification in Exceptional Student Education
    At least three years of experience with learners with all types of learning abilities, including those with social/emotional challenges
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive and supportive attitude with a passion for helping learners succeed
  • Able to analyze and adjust lessons according to a learner’s needs
  • Flexibility to gradually build your schedule, including at least two afternoons (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) a week

Responsibilities:

  • Assess a learner’s academic strengths and weaknesses and design personalized learning plans
  • Monitor and document a learner’s progress and adjust instruction as needed
  • Communicate effectively with learners, parents, teachers, and other professionals regarding the learner’s progress, goals, and needs
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions and strategies to address specific learning challenges and promote academic progress
  • Participate in continued learning opportunities, such as professional development and team meetings
  • Proven ability to design and implement individualized learning plans based on student needs. Ability to read and create lessons based on evaluations
  • Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and the progression of skills and content taught depending on readiness

Preferred:

  • Orton-Gillingham Trained
  • Understanding of Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading
  • Trained in multisensory math
  • Understanding of cognitively guided instruction
  • Understanding of explicit teaching strategies to teach writing and reading
  • Ability to teach and support learners needing executive functioning assistance
  • Experience working with students who have social/emotional challenges

About the position:

  • Employee (w-2) position with opportunity for Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, Professional Development opportunities, and Simple IRA company contribution
  • Hourly pay based on experience
  • The schedule will build over time, with the goal of increasing to 25-30 student hours per week. Must be initially available to work at least two afternoons per week
