Lithium-Ion Batteries Cause Fire at Central Transfer Station
Today, Seminole County Solid Waste and Seminole County Fire Department will host a press event warning of the dangers of improper use and disposal of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. On December 29, 2022, an overnight fire caused by lithium-ion batteries overheating destroyed four (4) solid waste trailers at the Seminole County Central Transfer Station in Longwood. Smoke Alarm Blitz with Red Cross and Seminole County Fire Dept in Eastbrook Subdivision
The Seminole County Fire Department and the American Red Cross of Central Florida recently partnered to install free smoke alarms in the Eastbrook Subdivision in Winter Park. In total, over 350 homes were visited by 11 teams. The alarms provided throughout the community were provided by Red Cross and were 10-year alarms with a lithium battery (meaning there is no battery replacement for 10 years). The Seminole County Fire Department recently welcomed two Emergency Communications Dispatchers to its Stork Club. On two separate days in June, Dispatcher Brittni Schmeiser (on 6/6/22) and Dispatcher Samantha Allen (on 6/20/22) both assisted in the deliveries of baby boys before Firefighters/Paramedics arrived on scene. I-4 Pedestrian Bridge Reopens To Connect Two Seminole County Trails

TRAIL CLOSURE: Cross Seminole Trail's I-4 Overpass Closed For Three Months
The I-4 Overpass bridge connecting the Cross Seminole Trail to the Seminole Wekiva Trail will be closed for routine maintenance, starting Monday, March 7, 2022. Metal components of the bridge are being re-painted to avoid rust and cable systems on the bridge will be tested. Overnight work will include changes in traffic patterns with one to two thru lanes of I-4 being closed at a time. The project is expected to be completed in three months. A Life Saving Lesson to Students from the Seminole County Fire Department
More than a dozen personnel at the Seminole County Fire Department recently taught more than 950 Seminole High School students hands-only CPRFlorida House Bill 157 (2021 Legislative) requires school districts to provide basic training in first aid, including CPR for students in 9th and 11th grades. Seminole County Firefighters/Paramedics and the Community Outreach Team trained over 950 11th grade students in hands-only CPR.
